Box Score

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex – A tightly-battled game was broken wide open in a five-minute span as the Robert Morris University men's soccer team defeated local-rival Duquesne, 3-0, at North Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon. The victory keeps the Colonials perfect, 3-0, at home and gets them to .500 on the year at 3-3-2. Duquesne suffers its fourth straight loss and sits 4-4 overall.

The three goals by Robert Morris came in a span of just 5:01. It was the fastest three goals ever by a Northeast Conference team and the 14th fastest three goals in NCAA history. Sophomore midfielder Bruce Cullen (Pickering, Ontario / Pine Ridge) set up all three goals. It marks the third time in team history that a player collected three assists in a game.

Both teams had early chances, but it wasn't until the 77th minute that someone took advantage. Cullen's left-footed corner kick swung into the middle of the box where senior Miro Cabrilo (Hamilton, Ontario / Glendale Secondary) headed it off the crossbar and over the line.

The leak in the Dukes defense quickly turned into a flood. Just 76 seconds later, Cullen hit a low cross to the middle of the box from the left wing. Sophomore Neco Brett (Kingston, Jamaica / Excelsior) settledthe ball to the ground on his first touch, then turned and fired a shot into the left corner for his fourth goal of the season.

The Colonials final goal came from a corner kick once again. This time, the ball by Cullen was sent to the far post where Brett put a shot off the left post. The deflection came back to the middle of the box and sophomore Matt Fonagy (Cecil, Pa. / Canon-McMIllan) knocked it home for his second goal of the year. That ended the five-minute onslaught in the 82nd minute.

Robert Morris finished the game with a 17-12 edge in shots, including a 13-2 margin in shots on goal. Freshman Joseph Kuta (Mississauga, Ontario / St. Joan of Arc) collected his third shutout in goal for RMU. Sam Frymier had 10 saves for Duquesne.

The Colonials invite Buffalo to North Athletic Complex for 1:00 p.m. matinee Sunday, Sept. 25.
