Boxscore vs. Slippery Rock (9/29/13)
Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's tennis team opened its 2013-14 campaign Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Slippery Rock at the North Athletic Complex.
The Colonials picked up the doubles point and also earned victories in singles play at the No. 2 through No. 4 flights.
A pair of freshmen posted wins in their respective collegiate debuts, as
Diana Mirceta (Hamilton, Canada / Glendale Secondary) earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sarah Joumond at No. 2, while
Alina Schibol (Hamburg, Germany) defeated Kylee Woodman, 6-1 and 6-1, at No. 4.
Also picking up wins in singles action for the Colonials were sophomores
Marie-Sophie Heine (Wanze, Belgium / Saint Quirin) and
Dounia Zinbi (Halle, Belgium / College St. Augustin).
Heine knocked off Lauren Coggins, 6-4 and 6-4, at No. 3, while Zinbi produced a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Samantha Bruggeman at No. 5.
Mirecta and Schibol also won in doubles action, posting an 8-6 win over Grbac and Joumond at the No. 1 flight, while Heine and freshman
Larissa Kiyoku (Brasilia, Brazil / Anglo Americano) teamed up for an 8-2 win over Coggins and Bruggeman at No. 2 to secure the doubles point.
Robert Morris returns to the court Friday, Oct. 11, by taking part in the Niagara Invitational.
