Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2013-14 campaign Thursday with a 7-0 setback to Akron.
The Colonials dipped to 1-1 on the 2013-14 with the setback, while the Zips improved to 1-0.
RMU battled for the doubles point, with sophomore
Marie-Sophie Heine (Wanze, Belgium / Saint Quirin) teaming up with freshman
Larissa Kiyoku (Brasilia, Brazil / Anglo Americano) to post a 6-2 victory over Shannon Newnes and Marta Briega at the No. 3 doubles flight.
Akron secured the doubles point thanks to victories at the No.1 and No. 2 flights and swept singles play. Heine came the closest to earning a victory in singles play, battling Caroline Harpainter at the No. 4 singles flight before falling in three sets, 6-3, 3-6 and 0-1.
