Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – February 21, 2014 – With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team looked to improve its standing within the Atlantic Hockey Association when the Colonials faced off against the Canisius Golden Griffins on Friday evening.  RMU would do just that behind the strength of four third-period goals en route to a 4-1 victory.

After Robert Morris (13-14-4, 13-7-4 AHA) allowed Canisius (11-17-3, 10-11-3 AHA) to score first in the midway through the second period, the Colonials rattled off four goals in the third period, with three of them coming within five minutes and thirty seconds.

The third-period scoring for RMU got started with a goal from Tyson Wilson (Brockville, Ontario / Brockville Braves) just 35 seconds into the final frame to tie the score, 1-1.

Only 66 seconds later, the Colonials would take their first lead of the game as Jeff Jones (Revelstoke, British Columbia / Merritt Centennials) put Robert Morris ahead, 2-1, with what would become the game-winning goal.

The advantage for RMU would double six minutes into the third period as a goal from Zac Lynch (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Bay State Breakers) made the score 3-1.

Greg Gibson (Burlington, Ontario / Amarillo Bulls) would seal the deal for Robert Morris with less than two minutes remaining in regulation when he potted an empty-net goal that ended the contest with a 4-1 score in favor of the Colonials.

Canisius' lone goal came in at the 9:32 mark of the second period when the Golden Griffins opened the scoring with Braeden Rigney getting a shot past Terry Shafer (Penfield, N.Y. / New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs) that saw RMU facing a 1-0 deficit.

Shafer finished the contest with 35 saves while collecting his 13th win of the season.

The Colonials and Golden Griffins will face off again tomorrow evening in Buffalo, N.Y. on the back end of a home-and-home series.  Face off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
