Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – March 18, 2014 – For his role in the Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team sweeping Connecticut to advance to the AHA Semifinals, freshman goaltender Dalton Izyk (Oswego, N.Y. / Indiana Ice) was named the Atlantic Hockey/Travel Team USA Goaltender of the Week.
In the two-games that allowed Robert Morris (17-17-5, 13-9-5 AHA) to advance to the AHA Semifinals, Izyk allowed just two goals for a 1.00 goals-against average while stopping 69 of the 71 shots he faced for a .972 save percentage. Izyk was no stranger to facing shots as he saw a minimum of ten shots in each of the six periods in the series.
In game one of the series, Izyk picked up his first-career shutout, stopping all 33 shots he faced in the 3-0 victory. Izyk made 13 saves in a busy first period for RMU while he turned away ten shots in the final frame while not allowing a goal to the Connecticut power play that had three man advantages in the last stanza.
On Saturday, Izyk made 36 saves, including 16 in the third period while protecting a one-goal lead, as the Colonials were victorious, 3-2, and advanced to the AHA semifinals with the sweep of the Huskies. Again, Izyk and his defensive corps kept the Connecticut power play from scoring on a pair of third-period man advantages.
In the 2014 AHA Playoffs, Izyk has played in three games – including two starts – and has won each game. Izyk's 3-0-0 record is paired with a 0.77 goals-against average and a .977 save percentage as the freshman has allowed just two goals while making 84 saves.
This season, Izyk has made just four starts while playing in eight games and holds a record of 3-1-0 with one shutout. Izyk has allowed 13 goals in 327 minutes of actions for a 2.39 goals-against average while making 169 saves for a .929 save percentage.
Robert Morris, the second-highest remaining seed in the tournament, will face off against Niagara on Friday, March 21 in the second semifinal contest of the day.
In the regular season, RMU and the Purple Eagles went 1-1-1 with each team winning on its home ice in February and skating to a tie in early October.
Faceoff is expected to be approximately 7:35 p.m., but is officially scheduled for one hour after the conclusion of the first semifinal contest.
