Colonials Return Home to Host Jacksonville

Robert Morris will play its third home game of the season this weekend when it welcomes Jacksonville to Joe Walton Stadium

Robert Morris Colonials (2-4, 0-2 NEC) vs. Jacksonville Dolphins (1-5, 0-1 A-Sun)
Saturday, March 22 – Moon Township, Pa. – Joe Walton Stadium – Noon

Scouting Jacksonville
Jacksonville enters this meeting with a record of 1-5, having beaten Marquette at home on March 8 for its only win. The Dolphins share a few common opponents with Robert Morris, as they fell to Bellarmine, 8-4, on Feb. 22, and lost to Notre Dame, 19-7.

Sophomore Tom Moore paces the Jacksonville in goals (9) and points (16), while redshirt senior Duncan Clancy has a team-high nine assists to go along with 14 points. Junior Quint Miller and freshman Chase McIntyre are second and third on the team with eight and seven goals, respectively.

Senior Pete DeLuca has started every game for the Dolphins between the pipes. DeLuca has allowed an average of 12.90 goals-per-game and has posted a save percentage of .511.

Last Meeting
Robert Morris defeated Jacksonville last season, 11-6, behind a four-goal effort from Tyler Digby. Connor Martin and Taylor Graves (Carlsbad, Calif. / Carlsbad) each added two goals for the Colonials, while Charles Ruppert stopped 14 of 20 shots to earn the win.

In Case You Missed It
Robert Morris fell to 0-2 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) after an 8-6 loss at Hobart this past Saturday. Sophomore James Rahe (Aldergrove, British Columbia / W.J. Mouat) tallied half of the Colonials' six goals en route to his first career hat trick, but a scoreless second quarter proved costly for RMU. Senior Brian Bohn (Mars, Pa. / Seneca Valley) made 10 saves in the loss.

History vs. Jacksonville
Robert Morris is 3-0 against Jacksonville all-time, having all the meetings with the Dolphins come within the last four seasons. A hat trick from Kyle Buchanan and 14 saves from Ruppert helped push RMU over Jacksonville in 2011, 11-7, while the Colonials withstood a late rally from the Dolphins in their 18-17 victory in 2010. Patrick Smith led the way that day with four goals.

  • 2013: Robert Morris 11, Jacksonville 6 – Jacksonville, Fla.
  • 2011: Robert Morris 11, Jacksonville 7 – Jacksonville, Fla.
  • 2010: Robert Morris 18, Jacksonville 17 – Moon Township, Pa.

Musket Shots
  • Robert Morris dropped to 0-2 in the NEC for only the second time in program history. The last time this happened was in 2011, but the Colonials rebounded that season to make its first NEC Tournament behind victories over Wagner, Bryant, and Sacred Heart.
  • Senior Sean Meagher (Chesterfield, Mo. / St. Louis University) ranks fourth in the nation in caused turnovers per game with 2.67. Last season the Senior CLASS Award semifinalist finished the season with a school record 38 and averaged 2.53 per game, good enough for second nationally.
  • Sophomore Eric Rankel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West) currently is third in the NEC in points-per-game at 2.67. This mark is identical to his mark last season, as he tallied 40 points (28g, 12a) in 15 games.
