Daytona Beach, Fla. / LPGA International – The
Robert Morris University men's golf team sits fifth after the first round of the 2014 Northeast Conference Championships being played at the LPGA International Champions Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Bryant University holds the lead midway through the rain-shortened championship with a 287. Fairleigh Dickinson is second at 299 followed by LIU Brooklyn (305), Saint Francis U. (307), Robert Morris (309), Sacred Heart (312), Central Connecticut State (313), Wagner (315) and St. Francis Brooklyn (343).
Sophomore
Matt Gurska tallied four birdies, including two in the final three holes, to card a one-over par 73 on the 6,919-yard par-72 layout. He finds himself tied for fifth overall.
Santiago Mejia, meanwhile, was even-par through 17 holes before a triple-bogey on the par-four 18
th gave him a 75 and put him in a tie fo 11
th.
Garrett Browning shot one-under par 35 on the back nine after a 45 on the first nine holes. His 80 has him tied for 24
th overall.
Ryan Prokay and Dan Maierboth shot 81 and sit tied for 29
th at the nine-team event.
The second and final round of the championship is slated for Sunday, May 4.
