Men's Lacrosse | 4/24/2015 9:21:00 AM

Robert Morris Colonials (2-11, 1-4 NEC) vs. Wagner Seahawks (4-8, 1-4 NEC)
Saturday, April 25, 2015 / Joe Walton Stadium – Moon Township, Pa. / 1:00 p.m.

Scouting Wagner – The Seahawks are led offensively by freshman attack Andrew Streilein, who paces the team with 21 goals and 30 points. Midfielders Paul DeVita, Billy Orme, and Patrick McMenamin also are in double-digits for goals with 13, 13, and 12, respectively, while junior attack Billy Battaglia leads Wagner in assists with 10. Junior defenseman Daniel Valencia has caused 24 turnovers on the season and is tied for the team lead in groundballs with 29. The Seahawks' top face-off specialist is redshirt sophomore William McMenamin, who has won 52 of 109 draws for a .477 success rate. Senior Anthony Peruso has started every game between the pipes, compiling a 7.59 goals against average and a save percentage of .552.

Against the Seahawks – Robert Morris is 8-1 against Wagner in its history. The Colonials' only loss to the Seahawks came in the program's inaugural season, and from 2009 to 2013, RMU had scored over 20 goals in each victory over Wagner.

Senior Salute – Robert Morris' four senior captains Luc Magnan, Jacob Ruest, Joseph Scenna, and Michael Seidel will don the Colonial colors one last time this Saturday against Wagner. Scenna is poised to break the program record for career starts with 54, while Magnan moved up to fifth all-time in caused turnovers with 43. The veteran quartet has been a part of the 2012 NEC regular-season championship team and the 2013 squad who advanced to the NEC Championship Game.

Last Time Out – Luke Laszkiewicz gave Robert Morris a 9-8 lead with 2:27 remaining, but Air Force stormed back with two goals in 46 seconds to stun the Colonials, 10-9, last Saturday. Laszkiewicz scored a career-high five goals in the defeat, while David Sturgis won four of eight draws at the X.

Know Your Enemy – In two meetings with Wagner, juniors Luke Laszkiewicz and Eric Rankel have combined for 10 goals and four assists. Laszkiewicz has put together identical four-point performances (3g, 1a), while Rankel scored three times and dished out a helper last season. Defensively, Luc Magnan caused three turnovers and picked up four groundballs in a 22-6 victory over the Seahawks in 2013.

Dynamic Duo – Luke Laszkiewicz's five-goal effort at Air Force this past Saturday both gave him 24 tallies on the season and put him in a unique category with teammate Eric Rankel. The two juniors are the only players in program history to score at least 20 goals in the first three years of their career. The closest player to join them would be Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (2008-11), but the program's second leading scorer fell a goal shy of 20 as a freshman.

Rahe Leads the Way – James Rahe enjoyed a breakout campaign as a sophomore, registering 32 points (21g, 11a) en route to All-NEC Second Team accolades. As an encore in 2015, he has already surpassed his assist and point totals with 18 and 34, respectively. Rahe leads the NEC in assists per game with a mark of 1.38 and is sixth in points per game with an average of 2.62.

Rookie Records – Carter Yepsen has enjoyed a solid first year at Robert Morris, tallying 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists. That number is good enough for the sixth highest mark among rookies in program history, tying him with Andrew Watt in 2005. He could slot into a tie for fifth with three points against Wagner this weekend.

Brotherly Love – The Colonials have had a history of brothers playing together and this season is no different with three sets on the roster. The Gibsons (Leighton and Marshall), Wales (Eric and Mitchell), and Yepsens (Carter and Conner) make up the RMU family who are actually family. The last time the Colonials have not had a set of brothers on their roster was in the 2010 season.

New Faces – The Colonials welcome 16 freshmen and a junior college transfer to the program in 2015. In addition, RMU also will be guided by two new assistant coaches in Travis Harrington and Robert Marasti. Harrington is a 2012 graduate of Bryant and previously coached at Seton Hill. Marasti is an alumnus of the program, having played for the Colonials from 2008 to 2011.
