Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's hockey team opens the 2015-16 in style with an improved facility. The Colonials locker room and wing of the RMU Island Sports Center was revealed to the team Monday morning.

Upgrades include a completely renovated locker room fresh with new lockers, dry stalls, stick racks, and a television and sound system for team video sessions. The training area has been expanded to better serve the physical athletic needs of both the men's and women's hockey teams.



"It was exciting to walk in there," said senior goaltender Terry Shafer, "to see all the hard work that's been going on pay off. Really some nice improvements."

"It completely outdid my expectations," said senior Matt Cope. "The lockers and everything, from top to bottom. It's really nice to have that."

While the seniors will only have the fresh locker room for one season, they recognize the impact it will have on the program down the road.

"It'll do wonders for our program," said Cope. "From recruiting, all the way to making our players just feel more professional and more at home."

"As a senior, I'm lucky," said Shafer. "I get to be in there the first year it's brand new and everything. It's going to be a great recruiting tool and it's going to become our new home. I'm really excited."

Robert Morris opens the 2015-16 season with an exhibition against the University of Guelph on October 11 at 2:05pm at 84 Lumber Arena, before regular season play begins at home against AHC opponent Air Force on October 16-17.
