Kettering, Ohio – The Robert Morris University men's golf team currently sits in 16th after an opening round score of 313 on the first day of the Dayton Fall Invitational.
Playing at the NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, Michigan paces the field with an even-par score of 284, five strokes ahead of tournament host Dayton (289). Rounding out the top five are Miami (Ohio), Morehead State, and Fort Wayne with respective rounds of 300, 301, and 303.
Both Kyle Grube and Daniel Franco Saad shot a team-best 76 on the day, putting them in an eight-way deadlock for 31st. Grube, playing as an individual, opened his round with a pair of bogeys before birdieing the sixth and seventh holes to get to even par before the turn. The back nine didn't go nearly as smooth for the freshman from Indiana, Pa., but he closed his round with a third birdie on the par-four 18th to finish with a 76.
Franco Saad tallied three birdies in his first round, with two coming on the par-three second and 15th holes. Right behind him was David Szymanski, who shot a 77 after parring 12 holes. Max Palmer also carded a score of under 80, posting a first round number of 78 to put him in a tie for 53rd.
Michael McMorrow and Grant Schumaker closed the Colonials' day with respective scores of 82 and 83.
Robert Morris concludes its fall campaign tomorrow morning with the second round of the Dayton Fall Invitational.
