Aurora, Ohio – The Robert Morris University golf team sits in a three-way tie for fifth place with a score of 580 after the opening two rounds of the Cleveland State Invitational.
Playing at the Barrington Country Club in Aurora, Ohio, a course that features 7,136 yards and is a par 72, Kent State leads the field after carding a team score of 541, 35 shots under par.
Robert Morris' score of 580 is four over par and knots them in a deadlock with Appalachian State and Malone. Longwood sits in second place behind the Golden Flashes with a 566, followed by tournament host Cleveland State (573), and Oakland (574). Rounding out the remaining positions are Wright State (584), Youngstown State (587), Detroit (588), and Loyola-Chicago (606).
Sophomore Daniel Franco Saad leads the Colonials with a two-round score of 138, good enough for a tie for fifth individually. Franco Saad opened the day at one-under before firing a career-best 67 in the second round, thanks in part to a six-to-one birdie-to-bogey ratio. The Bogota, Colombia tallied 10 birdies on the day, with seven of them coming on the front nine.
Freshman Max Palmer and junior Grant Schumaker both finished under par for the second round and currently sit in a tie for 20th and 31st, respectively. Palmer carded an even-par 144, cancelling out his one-over first round with a 71 on the second go-around. Schumaker played much better during his second trip on the course, finishing with a 68 after posting a 79 in the opening round.
Senior Michael McMorrow and sophomore David Szymanski shot respective scores of 151 and 161. Sophomore Bryce Gorrell played as an individual and carded a 157.
