Aurora, Ohio – The Robert Morris University golf team placed sixth at the Cleveland State Invitational on Monday afternoon, finishing with a three-round total of 881.
Robert Morris' second consecutive tournament with a score of 881 came after a third round total of 301. The Colonials finished two strokes ahead of Appalachian State (883) and Wright State (883), and five behind fifth-place Malone (876).
Sophomore Daniel Franco Saad shot a two-over-par 74 to finish the invitational with a four-under-par 212, which was good for 10th individually. Freshman Max Palmer claimed second on the team and 25th overall after a three-round total of 220, while junior Grant Schumaker shot a 224 over the competition to slot into a five-way deadlock for 34th.
Senior Michael McMorrow finished in a tie for 39th after carding a three-round score of 225. Sophomore David Szymanski rounded out the RMU team score with a 244, while classmate Bryce Gorrell played as an individual and tallied a 240.
No. 18 Kent State won the tournament, carding a 46-under-par 818 at the 7,136-yard, par 72 course at the Barrington Country Club. The Golden Flashes finished 44 strokes better than second-place Oakland (862). Invitational host Cleveland State placed third with an 863, followed by Longwood at 865. Detroit (888), Youngstown State (889), and Loyola-Chicago (914) respectively made up ninth, 10th, and 11th.
Robert Morris is off next week before playing in the Dayton Fall Invitational on Oct. 17-18 at the NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio – the Colonials' final competition of the fall season.
