Robert Morris versus Penn StateRobert Morris is 2-1 against Penn State all time, and the Colonials have won the previous two meetings between the programs. It's been six years since the two teams last faced off in 2010, but one of the most memorable moments in Robert Morris lacrosse history is a double-overtime, 12-11 victory over the Nittany Lions on a snowy Valentine's Day in 2009 at Joe Walton Stadium.
O Captain, My CaptainIn December, Colonials head coach
Andrew McMinn designated
Matt Bukovac,
Marshall Gibson and
James Rahe as this year's captains. Bukovac, a redshirt senior, missed last season due to injury, but made 17 appearances in goal for the Colonials from 2012-14. He posted a 4-2 record in 2012 and was named to the All-NEC Rookie Team that year.
Junior midfielder Gibson played in 13 games and made three starts in 2015. He recorded three goals and one assist, with his first career goal scored on Feb. 14 vs. Bellarmine.
Two-time All-NEC Second Team selection Rahe started in all but one of the Colonials' games last season. He led RMU with 19 assists, 36 points, and finished second in goals with 17. He ranked second in the Northeast Conference (NEC) in assists per game (1.36) and sixth in points per game (2.57). Rahe recorded multi-point efforts in 11 of 14 games last season, including a six-point game at St. Joseph's.
Pick SixRobert Morris returns its top six scorers from a season ago, including a talented trio in
James Rahe,
Eric Rankel and
Luke Laszkiewicz. The senior trifecta combined for 69 goals, 34 assists and 103 points in 2015. Rankel (first), Rahe (second) and Laszkiewicz (second) all earned All-NEC honors last season.
Brotherly LoveThe Colonials have a history of brothers playing together and this season there are three sets on the roster. The Gibsons (Leighton and Marshall), Wales (Eric and Mitchell) and Yepsens (Carter and Conner) make up the RMU family who truly are family. The last time the Colonials did not have at least one set of brothers on the roster was in 2010.
New FacesThe Colonials welcome 12 freshmen to the program in 2016.
