Dayton, Ohio – The University of Dayton was leading
Robert Morris University, 13-0, with 9:37 left in the fourth quarter when heavy lightning and rain inundated Welcome Stadium Saturday afternoon. After a one hour and 48 minute delay, officials decided to call the game and the Colonials fall to 0-2 with the 13-0 loss. The Flyers stay unbeaten at 2-0.
Dayton held statistical advantages in nearly every category, but most pertinent to the outcome of the game was a 32:13 to 18:10 edge in time of possession. On the field for 75 plays, the Flyers averaged just 4.3 yards per play but were able to rack up 319 yards.
Defensively,
Adam Wollet tallied 12 tackles, including six of the solo variety.
Joseph Uhatafe added 11 stops, while freshman
Gee Stanley tallied two more sacks.
Zack Zamiska added a sack as well.
Dante Satcher led the offense, accounting for 59 rushing yards on 12 carries and also catching one pass.
Warren Robinson had three catches for 16 yards and redshirt-freshman quarterback
Andrew Romanchak went 6-of-16 passing for 16 yards.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Dayton took over at the 50-yard line and quarterback Alex Jeske hit Jack Euritt for a 38-yard completion to the Robert Morris 12-yard line. The Flyers were then able to convert a fourth-and-one play from the three-yard line, and three plays later Jack Adams ran in from one-yard out to break the scoreless tie with 8:18 left in the first half.
Robert Morris threatened midway through the second quarter. After a pass interference penalty moved the Colonials near midfield,
Dante Satcher rambled 15 yards around the left side. He followed with another six-yard gain to the Dayton 31. Three straight incompletions, however, ended the threat.
Dayton immediately responded, Jeske firing deep to Ryan Skibinski for 31 yards to the RMU 38-yard line. A personal foul on the Colonials kept the Dayton drive alive, but
Zack Zamiska registered a seven-yard sack and seemed to stem the Flyers momentum. Another flag on the next play, this time a pass interference on the blue-and-white, allowed Dayton to convert a 20-yard field goal to take a 10-0 lead into the half.
An interception of a Romanchak pass by David Leisring on the Colonials first drive of the second half gave Dayton the ball at the RMU 47-yard line. A pass down the middle for 15 yards combined with 20 rushing yards from Jack Adams pushed Dayton to the 12-yard line. The drive stalled there, but William Will came on to hit a field goal from 29 yards pushing the margin to 13-0.
Jeske finished 16-of-31 for 221 yards at quarterback for Dayton. Skibinski had 71 yards on five receptions and Euritt added 57 yards on three catches. Adams rushed 25 times for 67 yards.
Robert Morris will spend another weekend on the road when they take the short trip northwest to take on the Youngstown State Penguins in a 4:00 game Saturday, Sept. 17.
