Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University golf team kicked off its 2016-17 campaign Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa., at the Bucknell Invitational.
The Colonials, the reigning team champion of the event held at the Bucknell University Golf Course, concluded the first day of action tied for fourth with a team score of 289.
Saint Joseph's sits in the lead after the first day of action after firing a 275, a new tournament record for 18 holes. La Salle (284) and Bucknell (288) trail the Hawks, while Wayne State (289) is tied with RMU.
Individually, sophomore
Daniel Franco Saad sits in a four-way tie for fifth after carding a 69, which sits one under par. He is tied with Connor O'Brien of Bucknell, Gab Gingras of Ottawa and Jordan Andrus of Wayne State.
In his collegiate debut, freshman
Max Palmer finished two strokes over par by firing a 72. He is tied for 17th with Evan Gaesser of La Salle and JP Raftery of the host Bison.
Rounding out the lineup for Robert Morris on the first day of action at the Bucknell Invitational was junior
Grant Schumaker, senior
Michael McMorrow, junior
Brett Pompeani and freshman
Noah Firmstone.
Schumaker sits in a six-way tie for 20th after posting a 73 Saturday, while McMorrow finished two strokes behind at 75. Pompeani and Firmstone each carded a 76 for the Colonials.
The final round begins Sunday at 8:00 a.m., with Pompeani teeing off first for the Colonials at 8:10 a.m.
