Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University golf team concluded play in its first tournament of the 2016-17 campaign Sunday by finishing fourth out of 15 teams at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Colonials posted a team score of 578 for 36 holes at the Bucknell University University Golf Club, carding a score of 289 on both days. Saint Joseph's took home the team title thanks to a score of 570. Tying for second was Wayne State and Bucknell, as each finished with scores of 576.
Trailing RMU and rounding out the field were La Salle (581), Navy (583), Lafayette (588), Humber College (589), Ottawa (599), Lehigh (600), Navy B (609), Hampton (612), Messiah (625), Bucknell B (627) and St. Francis Brooklyn (643).
Freshman
Max Palmer finished with a one-under-par 69 in his second collegiate round to take home top honors individually for Robert Morris. He finished the two-day tournament with a score of 141, good enough to tie for fourth with Kyle Rybicki of Wayne State and JP Raferty of the host Bison.
Also claiming a top 15 finish for the Colonials was junior
Grant Schumaker, who finished at 145 after recording a round of 72 Sunday. He tied for 15th with Thomas Garbee of Navy.
Senior
Michael McMorrow finished in a tie for 20th with T.J. O'Neal of Hampton thanks to a two-day score of 147. He shaved three strokes off his score from the first day of the invitational, posting a 72 Sunday.
Rounding out the lineup for the Colonials, sophomore
Daniel Franco Saad tied for 35th with junior
Brett Pompeani, as the pair each finished with scores of 151. Freshman
Noah Firmstone finished one stroke behind Saad and Pompeani at 152.
RMU will continue its 2016 fall season by taking part in the Navy Fall Classic, which will be held at the Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md., Sept. 18-19.
