Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University golf team continued its 2016 fall season Sunday by finishing second in the first round of play at the Navy Fall Classic in Annapolis, Md.
The Colonials posted a team score of 288 at the Naval Academy Golf Course, finishing four shots above par. Fellow Northeast Conference foe Wagner carded a 283 on the first day of action to pace the field, finishing one under par.
Leading the way individually for RMU was freshman
Max Palmer, who was one of six student-athletes to finish at 70 (-1) in the first day of action. He joined John Clare of Le Moyne, Nicholas Musshafen of Wagner, Ross Pilliod of Saint Joseph's, Blaine Lafferty of Delaware and Aaron Fricke of Drexel.
Reid Bedell of Lafayette and Connor Tallman each finished the first 18 holes of the tourney with a score of 68, three shots under par, to lead the field.
Junior
Grant Schumaker is tied for ninth after playing even par on the first day with a 71. He is one of seven student-athletes that finished even on the day.
Also earning top 25 finishes for the Colonials Sunday were sophomores
Bryce Gorrell and
Daniel Franco Saad. Gorrell carded a 73 to tie for 18th, while Franco Saad is one stroke behind at 74 to tie for 25th.
Senior
Michael McMorrow rounded out the top five for Robert Morris, posting a score of 77 to sit in a tie for 49th.
Tee time for Monday's second and final round begins at 8:30 a.m.
