Batavia, Ohio – The Robert Morris University golf team finished fifth at the Northern Kentucky Fall Classic on Monday afternoon after carding a team score of 297 for a three-round total of 881.
Robert Morris was led this afternoon by sophomore Daniel Franco Saad and freshman Max Palmer, who each shot a 73 on the 6,845-yard, par 71 course at the Elks Run Golf Club. Franco Saad doubled as the team's top scorer for the tournament with a 219, good enough for a tie for 12th.
Franco Saad's round of 73 was guided by a pair of birdies on the fourth and 15th holes. Palmer birdied the fifth and 11th for his 73, and carded a 220 for the invitational, placing him in a tie for 18th.
Also finishing in the top 25 individually was senior Michael McMorrow with a third-round score of 75 and an overall mark of 222. McMorrow also pocketed a pair of birdies, scoring one-under on holes five and 14.
Sophomore Bryce Gorrell completed play with a three-round score of 225, placing him in a tie for 32nd. Junior Grant Schumaker came in a stroke behind Gorrell as his 226 slotted him in a tie for 43rd, putting the Colonials' top five in the top half of the leaderboard.
Sophomore Ethan Sawyer competed as an individual, finishing with a three-round score of 239.
Dayton claimed the team title with an overall score of 859, seven above par. Oakland placed second after carding a three-round mark of 871, followed by Fort Wayne (874) and Stetson (877). Tournament host Northern Kentucky (886) finished sixth, while rounding out the top 10 was Green Bay (891), Saint Francis U (891), Wright State (893), and Youngstown State (899).
Robert Morris is back in action on Monday, Oct. 3 for the first day of the Cleveland State Invitational.
