Moon Township, Pa. – Defensive lineman
Mike Lamb was named the Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the first weekly honor of any sort for the
Robert Morris University junior.
Lamb was a lion on the Colonials field goal defense unit against East Tennessee State on Saturday. A former offensive lineman, Lamb blocked two field goal attempts in the team's final non-conference game of the season to help keep RMU within striking distance throughout. Trailing 10-0 in the third quarter, Lamb came through the middle of the line to stuff a 31-yard ETSU field goal attempt. The junior was at it again in the fourth quarter, getting enough of a 49-yard attempt to cause it to flutter short and land harmlessly in the end zone.
Senior linebacker
Gerald Ferguson was named an NEC Prime Performer for his role in Saturday's game. Ferguson collected a career-best and game-high 13 tackles while leading an RMU defense that allowed just 255 yards to the Bucs. The senior collected his fifth sack of the season and added 3.5 tackles for loss to run his season total to 9.0.
The Colonials finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with a record of 2-3. NEC play begins for RMU on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they welcome cross-town rival Duquesne to Joe Walton Stadium for 6:00 p.m. contest.
