RMU Closes Out Two-Game Homestand Against Wagner

- The Robert Morris University men's basketball team closes out a two-game homestand at the Charles L. Sewall Center Saturday when it welcomes Wagner for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
 
- Robert Morris opened its homestand by dropping a 74-70 decision to Mount St. Mary's (2/9/17). Sophomore guard Isaiah Still led four Colonials in double figures with 17 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Matty McConnell added 13 points and a career-high six steals.
 
- Freshman guard Clive Allen came off the bench and tied a career high with 11 points against the Mount (2/9/17), while senior guard Kavon Stewart contributed 10 points and three rebounds.
 
- Nine of RMU's 13 games against Northeast Conference foes this season have been decided by seven points or less, with the Colonials owning a record of 3-6 (.333) in those contests. In league tilts decided by five points or less, Robert Morris has posted a record of 2-5 (.286). In seven years under head coach Andrew Toole, the Colonials are 49-31 (.613) in games settled by five points or less.
 
- RMU concluded a four-game road trip with a 78-54 win @ St. Francis Brooklyn (2/4/17). The Colonials finished 2-2 (.500) in their four-game trek and held the Terriers to just 29.1 percent (16-for-55) shooting, a season low by a Robert Morris opponent, including 12 percent (3-for-25) from beyond the arc.
 
- Sophomore guard Isaiah Still notched the first double-double of his career in the win over St. Francis Brooklyn with 18 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Dachon Burke contributed 14 points and five rebounds against the Terriers, while sophomore guard Matty McConnell finished with 10 points.
 
- Redshirt senior forward Aaron Tate is RMU's active leader in career rebounds with 484 and needs 16 caroms to become the 18th member of the Robert Morris 500-Rebound Club. Senior guard Kavon Stewart became the eighth player in school history to appear in 120 career games when he turned the trick against Mount St. Mary's (2/9/17). Stewart is tied for 13th all-time at RMU in career starts (86).
 
- Robert Morris announced Thursday, January 19, 2017, in a press conference at the Charles L. Sewall Center it will break ground on the UPMC Events Center, a 140,000-square foot complex, in July. The Colonials will play their home games at Peoples Court, and the facility is slated to open in January of 2019. In addition, RMU extended the contract of head coach Andrew Toole one season through the 2020-21 campaign.
 
- While the UPMC Events Center is being built, Robert Morris will play its home games at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Colonials will play their entire slate in 2017-18 at the facility as well as its non-conference schedule in 2018-19. RMU posted a 2-0 record in the facility this season.
 

 
Mount St. Mary's Tidbits - Robert Morris suffered its fourth straight loss to Mount St. Mary's ... RMU owns a 32-31 (.508) edge in the all-time series ... The Colonials tied a season high for points in the paint (44), outscoring the Mount by 22 in the category ... Robert Morris also held advantages in points off turnovers (18-9), second-chance points (12-4) and fastbreak points (10-2) ... RMU owned a 36-28 edge in rebounding, including a 13-6 advantage on the offensive glass ... The Colonials slipped to 2-7 (.222) when outrebounding their opponent ... The four-point setback dropped RMU to 5-6 (.455) this season in games decided by five points or less, including 2-5 (.286) against Northeast Conference opposition ... Robert Morris finished with just six assists, its lowest against a league foe this season ... The Colonials also recorded just six dimes @ Mount St. Mary's (1/26/17).
 
Return Of The Mack - Sophomore guard Matty McConnell set a career high in thefts against Mount St. Mary's (2/9/17), finishing with six steals while also adding 13 points and four rebounds. McConnell has reached double figures in six of his last nine games entering Saturday's tilt against Wagner, averaging 10.6 points per contest during that span. He has also supplied averages of 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals. Against Northeast Conference opposition, McConnell is tied for second in the circuit in steals, producing an average of 2.23 per contest. In 31 career games against league foes, McConnell is averaging 2.32 thefts per game.
 
Under/Over - The 2016-17 version of the Colonials are one of the youngest teams in head coach Andrew Toole's seven-year tenure at RMU, as three freshman and three sophomores help make up the rotation. Through 25 games, the Robert Morris underclassmen have supplied the Colonials with 54.2 percent (2,832-of-5,225) of the minutes played and 58.8 percent (962-of-1,637) of their scoring.
 
Surf Board - The Colonials have been bolstered by the return of forward Aaron Tate in 2016-17, especially on the glass. Tate appeared in RMU's first three games of the 2015-16 campaign before being shut down with a season-ending injury and is the program's active career leader in rebounds with 484. He has a chance to join the 500-Rebound Club in his final season of eligibility. Tate has led the Colonials in rebounding in 14 of their 26 games of 2016-17 and owns a team-high 173 boards. He needs to average 3.2 caroms per contest over RMU's final five games of the regular season to become the 18th member of the club.
