Grasonville, Md. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place at the Towson Spring Invitational this afternoon after moving up three positions with a second round score of 305.
Robert Morris' second round score was three strokes higher than its opening round of 302, but only eight other teams could manage to shoot lower than a 305 on the day. The Colonials finished in a deadlock with Pennsylvania with a total score of 31-over 607 and came in second out of the fourth Northeast Conference (NEC) participants, behind third-place Fairleigh Dickinson (591, +15) and ahead of 10th-place Bryant (609, +33) and 19th-place Sacred Heart (635, +59).
Max Palmer was the top finishing individual for RMU, tying for 12th with a two-round score of 148 (+4). Palmer shot a three-over 75 this afternoon, carding a total of 12 pars and an eagle on the first hole. David Szymanski registered a six-over 78 for a total tally of 152 (+8), good for second on the team and a tie for 34th overall.
Pars on 13 of 18 holes helped Grant Schumaker tie Palmer on the day with a 75, while Michael McMorrow carded a five-over 77 to round out the Colonials' four-man scoring. Daniel Franco Saad finished the tournament with a score of 168 and Brett Pompeani carded a 167 playing as an individual.
Elon (587, +11) topped Towson (588, +12) for the tournament title. Medalist honors went to Bethune-Cookman's Daniel Brennan, who shot a two-under 142.
The invitational was held at Prospect Bay Country Club, a par 72, 6,530-yard course in Grasonville, Maryland.
Robert Morris is back in action on Sunday, April 2 at the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational.
