Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Robert Morris University men's golf team currently sits in fourth place after an opening round score of 311 on the first day of the Lonnie Barton Invitational.
Playing at LPGA International Hills Course in Daytona Beach, Fla., Sacred Heart currently paces the field after shooting a first round score of 306, 18 strokes over par. Fort Wayne (307) and Longwood (308) sit just ahead of Robert Morris, while Towson's 317 rounds out the top five. Fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) foes Saint Francis U (319), tournament host LIU Brooklyn (326), and Bryant (330) currently slot in at sixth, ninth, and 11th place, respectively.
The Colonials sent seven players to the Sunshine State and were led in the first round by Michael McMorrow, who shot a four-over 76 to find himself in a three-way tie for 13th. Daniel Franco Saad and David Szymanski – playing as an individual – each carded scores of 77, while Max Palmer shot a 78 over the 6,117-yard, par-72 course.
Bryce Gorrell and Brett Pompeani registered respective rounds of 80 and 81, while Grant Schumaker carded an 84.
10 schools are participating in this year's Lonnie Barton Invitational, with two (Sacred Heart, Saint Francis U) also providing a full B team.
Robert Morris concludes play at its spring season opener tomorrow morning.
