Colonials Meet No. 18/18 Cavaliers in Charlottesville

RMU faces non-conference road test at UVA

Moon Township, Pa. A quick, three-day turnaround since last Saturday's Northeast Conference victory against Wagner sets up a non-conference road test for the Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team, as they head to No. 18/18 Virginia on Tuesday, April 11 for a 7 p.m. tilt in Klockner Stadium.
 
The Tuesday night matchup will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, which can be viewed via the WatchESPN app, or by logging onto ESPN3.com.
 
Robert Morris (8-3, 4-0) enters the mid-week meeting riding a four-game winning streak, while Virginia (7-5, 0-3) is coming off a 15-12 loss to then-No. 20 North Carolina (the Cavaliers were ranked No. 14 heading into that Atlantic Coast Conference [ACC] matchup). For the second time this season, the Colonials are receiving votes in the USILA/Nike Div. I Coaches Poll.

Robert Morris is 0-1 all-time against Virginia. The last time the Colonials faced the Cavaliers was in 2010, when RMU dropped an 18-9 decision to a No. 1-ranked UVA squad.
 
Scouting Virginia
No. 18/18 Virginia is coming off a 15-12 loss to then-No. 20 UNC. It was UVA's first loss of the season that was by more than one goal, and the Cavaliers trailed by as many as seven goals, 10-3, early in the third. Senior attack Zed Williams and sophomore midfield Ryan Conrad led the attack with three goals apiece. Conrad also dished an assist. UVA went 1-5 on extra-man opportunities, and 7-30 in the faceoff X. The Cavaliers lead the nation in ground balls per game (44.33) and rank second nationally in scoring offense (15.08), points per game (24.83), and assists per game (9.75).

The Numbers Game
During Robert Morris' current four-game winning streak, the Colonials boasted double-digit goal-scoring in all four outings, and limited their opponent to single-digit scoring in three out of the four wins.
 
Among the Ranks
The Colonials rank sixth in the nation in  caused turnovers per game (9.00), ninth in saves per game (12.73),   and rank among the top 20 in clearing percentage (11th; .901), assists per game (12th; 7.36), points per game (13th; 19.18), winning percentage (14th; .727), scoring offense (15th; 11.82), ground balls per game (17th; 30.36), and scoring margin (19th; 2.55).
 
Leading the Way
Robert Morris leads the Northeast Conference in winning percentage, scoring offense, shot percentage (.304), scoring margin, points per game, ground balls per game, assists per game, and clearing percentage.
 
Dynamic Duo
Redshirt sophomore attack Matt Schmidt and freshman attack Ryan Smith were named NEC Player of the Week and NEC Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their career performances in RMU's 17-6 win against Wagner. Smith assisted on five of Schmidt's career-best six goals.
 
Freshman Phenom
Freshman Ryan Smith ranks second in the NEC in shot percentage (.474). Smith has posted a point in eight of 10 games played, including the last four outings. He ranks second on the team in goals (18) and fourth in points (24).
 
Mr. Reliable
Junior attack Adrian Torok-Orban is one of 27 players nationally who are currently riding a 20-plus game point streak (26 games: 52G, 15A, 67P) dating back to April 25, 2015.
 
Schedule Notes
For the first time since 2012, the Colonials will play a game under the lights of Joe Walton Stadium, when they host Canisius on Tues., April 18 at 7 p.m. in a non-conference, evening clash.
