Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University football is teaming up with Be The Match® Bone Marrow Registry and The Andy Talley Bone Marrow Foundation to host its Inaugural RMU Football Bone Marrow Drive on April 20, 2017.

Next Thursday's event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at RoMo's Cafe on the third floor of the Nicholson Center. For patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases, a bone marrow or cord blood transplant may be their best or only hope for a cure. Each year, 14,000 patients in the U.S. will need a marrow or stem cell transplant to survive. Yet 70% of patients who need a transplant to do not have a fully matched donor in their family. They depend on Be The Match® and its supporters to find a match to save their life. The organization also provide one-on-one support to patients and their families throughout the transplant journey.

You can help by joining Be The Match Registry. Your tissue type is added to the registry. It's not a marrow donation; you don't actually donate until you are a match for a patient. You can also support the cause by donating financially or volunteering at Be The Match events.

The Andy Talley Foundation was started in 2010 by Villanova head football coach Andy Talley who has been helping the Be The Match registry since 1992. In their partnership, the formed the "Get in the Game. Save a Life" (GITG) inititiative to enlist other college football programs to participate. Since 2008, the GITG inititiative has added over 78 college football programs and added 71,000 potential donors to the database.
