RMU To Host 2021 NCAA Frozen Four

Moon Township, Pa. – The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee has chosen the city of Pittsburgh as the site of the 2021 NCAA Frozen Four, it was announced today.

Robert Morris University, in conjunction with VisitPittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL), will serve as the host of the event at PPG Paints Arena.

"It's extremely exciting to be able to bring the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Frozen Four back to Pittsburgh in 2021," RMU Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., said. "Given the success we had with the event in 2013 and the positive response we got from the NCAA and the local and regional communities, our expectation is to put on another first-class event that everyone can be proud of. Our strong partnerships with both VisitPittsburgh and PPG Paints Arena continue to help make the city an attractive site to host the NCAA Frozen Four."

The 2021 NCAA Men's Frozen Four at PPG Paints Arena will take place April 8 and 10, 2021.

"We're very excited to have the Frozen Four return to Pittsburgh," RMU head men's ice hockey coach Derek Schooley said. "This is the premier event of college hockey and will bring fans from across the country to the city of Pittsburgh. Along with numerous exciting wins, hosting the Frozen Four is another feather in the cap of Robert Morris hockey."

The 2021 NCAA Frozen Four will mark the second time RMU has hosted the event in Pittsburgh. The first occasion came in 2013, when Yale claimed its first national championship as the No. 4 seed out of the West with a 4-0 victory over Quinnipiac at CONSOL Energy Center April 13, 2013. Yale's first national title in men's ice hockey marked the first time a major national championship in NCAA history was decided in Pittsburgh. A total of 35,612 fans attended the three games.

In addition to Yale and Quinnipiac, the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four also featured St. Cloud State and UMass Lowell. Quinnipiac, the No. 1 seed in the East, defeated St. Cloud State, 4-1, April 11, to advance to the national championship game, while Yale defeated UMass Lowell, 3-2, in overtime.

Each of the four teams that made up the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four were seeking their first national championship, just the second time in tournament history and first since 1958. Andrew Miller of Yale was named the 2013 Most Outstanding Player as he helped guide the Bulldogs to the first national championship for a member of ECAC Hockey since 1989.

In addition, the NCAA Frozen Four features a number of activities surrounding the event, including Frozen Fest and autograph sessions.
