Moon Township, Pa. – A trio of
Robert Morris University football players were recognized when the All-Northeast Conference Football Teams were released via social media on Wednesday afternoon. Senior defensive lineman
Amir Fenwick highlighted the group as he was selected as an All-NEC First Team performer for the second consecutive season. Senior linebacker
Adam Wollet was a second team pick for the second time while junior tight end
Matthew Gonzalez was honored for the first time with a spot on the league's first team.
Fenwick, who battled through injuries and double-teams through much of the season, finished the year with 33 tackles including 4.5 for loss. The senior's season got off to an impressive start as he logged a career best 10 stops in the team's home opening victory against Virginia State. He would go on to finish the year with 12 solo and 21 assisted stops, but more importantly, played a huge role in gobbling up blockers in the center of the defensive line. A native of Clinton, Md., Fenwick started 23 games on the defensive front and finished his career with 107 tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss.
Gonzalez had a breakout season in 2018, putting together one of the best receiving years in team history. The junior hauled in a team-record 12 touchdown passes, a number that led the NEC and was 10th in the nation. All told, he finished the year with 40 receptions and 642 yards to rank eighth and seventh in the team's single-season record books. Gonzalez ranked third among FCS tight ends in averaging 16.05 yards per reception.
The Lakewood, Ohio, native opened eyes in the team's home opener against Virginia State as he hauled in four passes for 113 yards, becoming the first RMU player to reach 100 receiving yards in a game since 2015. Over the course of five games in the middle of the season, Gonzalez pulled in nine TD passes, including a three score game against Central State. He had another 100-yard game at Duquesne with a season-best seven catches for 103 yards.
Wollet left his mark all over the Robert Morris record book as he capped an impressive four-year campaign as a middle linebacker. He led the Northeast Conference and finished 10th in the nation with 111 tackles in 2018. It's the fifth-highest tackling total in team history and gives him two of the top-seven single-season marks by a Colonial. Wollet's 54 solo stops this season are second most in team history. The senior finished his career with 56 tackles in his final four games, an average of 14 tackles per game, as he collected 10 or more stops in seven games.
Wollet's monster senior season moved him into third on the team's career tackle list with 314. He is second at RMU with 40 career starts at linebacker and had a string of 29 consecutive starts that stretched over three seasons. Wollet is also a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District II pick, a 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-American and the 2018 NEC Football Scholar-Athlete.
