Kissimmee, Fla. – The
Robert Morris University softball team dropped its final contest of the Citrus Classic Sunday afternoon, 10-0, to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Kissimmee, Fla. It was the fifth straight loss for a Colonials squad that sits at 3-10 overall.
The Colonials had three hits, all singles, by
Kristen Pray,
Olivia Lorusso and
Taylor Bartlow who all went 1-for-2 on the day. Cait Brooks was 3-for-4 and had four runs batted in to highlight the offensive effort for the Irish. Alexis Holloway got credit for the win combining with teammate Katie Beriont to blank the Colonials.
Madison Riggle took the loss for RMU as she lasted two innings. Freshman
Kaitlyn Clark made her collegiate debut in the circle striking out two in two innings of work.
Notre Dame scored twice in the top of the first to take a lead that it would not relinquish. A run-scoring single by Abby Sweet preceded a bases loaded double by Brooks that drove in three and pushed the margin to 7-0. Sara White hit a two-run homer in the third before Notre Dame tacked on the 10th and final run in the fourth.
RMU returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 6, for a doubleheader at Stetson University in Deland, Fla. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
