Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier Up Next For Malá

Rising sophomore coming off impressive performance at European Championship

Fresh off posting one of the top offensive performances for the Czech National Team at the 2019 European Softball Federation (ESF) European Championship, Kristýna Malá of the Robert Morris University softball team has made the roster for the team for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier.

The qualifier takes place July 23-27, 2019, at Sportpark de Paperclip in Utrecht, Netherlands. The Czech National Team is one of eight teams to take part in the WBSC Europe/Africa Qualifier, joining Italy, France and Botswana in Group B of the qualifier. Group A consists of Great Britain, South Africa, Spain and the host Netherlands.

Malá played in 11 games for the Czech Republic at the 2019 ESF European Championship, hitting .333 (6-for-18) with nine runs, a pair of doubles, a triple, a home run and a team-high eight RBI. She also led the squad in slugging percentage (.722) as the Czech Republic recorded an overall record of 8-4 (.667).

The Czech Republic will open play in the qualifier Tuesday, July 23, 2019, against France. The schedule also includes Italy (7/24/19) and Botswana (7/25/19) before Super Round action begins.

In her first season at Robert Morris, Malá earned a spot on the 2019 Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Rookie Team. In 11 games against conference opposition, Malá hit a team-high .417 (10-for-24) to go along with eight runs scored and a pair of doubles.

Overall in 2019, Malá played in 34 games, including 31 starts, recording a .250 (18-for-72) average with 10 runs, three doubles and four RBI. She closed the year by hitting safely in eight of her last 12 games, recording three multi-hit efforts during that stretch.
