Kapelmaster Signs With Kansas City

Pittsburgh, Pa. - Former RMU goaltender Justin Kapelmaster became the latest in a long line of Colonials alum to join the professional ranks Tuesday when it was announced that he had signed a professional contract with the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL.

Kapelmaster put together one of the most brilliant seasons for a goaltender in RMU history during his lone year with the program in 2019-20.

The Coral Springs, Florida native posted a 12-14-3 overall record that included two shutouts, and his single-season marks in save percentage (.930), goals-against average (2.48) and saves per-game (30.4) each rank as program records.

He helped lead RMU to a victory in his lone postseason appearance with the program as well, stopping 68 of 70 shots over the final two games against Holy Cross to erase a game-one loss and help RMU take the series 2-1 in the opening round of the 2020 Atlantic Hockey Tournament.

Kapelmaster became the first Colonials netminder in history to earn AHA end-of-season accolades last year when he was named to the AHA All-Conference second team. He was also named Team MVP for the 2019-20 campaign as voted on by his teammates.

Kansas City is the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames. For more info on all things Colonials hockey, be sure to follow the Colonials on TwitterInstagram and Facebook
