Moon Township, Pa. – Chris Sabol, a redshirt sophomore on the Robert Morris University golf team, was named Nike/Horizon League Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Thursday afternoon.
Sabol is the first RMU player to receive a Horizon League weekly award this season, and this marks the first weekly honor of his career. He is the first Colonial to garner a weekly or monthly accolade since Kyle Grube and Max Palmer shared Northeast Conference (NEC) Golfer of the Month honors on April 3, 2019.

The Moon Area High School product was victorious at last weekend's Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational, carding a 36-hole score of 144 (E) to win the event by one stroke. Sabol outlasted 49 other players with identical rounds of 72 and became the fourth different RMU player in as many seasons to garner medalist honors, joining Chase Miller (2018-19), the aforementioned Palmer (2019-20), and David Szymanski (2017-18).
Sabol has been terrific through two tournaments in the 2021 spring slate, leading the Colonials with a 73.0 stroke average and a pair of top-10 finishes. The redshirt sophomore bagged the first top-10 of his career at the Carpetbagger Classic on March 20-21, placing in a tie for sixth with a two-day total of 148 (+4). He competed in seven rounds last season after transferring in from Methodist (N.C.) University, finishing fifth on the team in stroke average at 78.1.
RMU returns to the links on April 12-13 for the Mountaineer Invitational. Hosted by West Virginia at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, W.Va., this will mark the Colonials' first appearance in the event since the fall of 2017.
