LAST TIME OUT

The Colonials earned their first win of the season in dramatic fashion Saturday, outlasting defending regular season champion Northern Kentucky for a 1-0 victory to start HL play 1-0.

Freshman Bryan Akongo scored the deciding goal in the victory, his first career NCAA tally, while junior keeper Mike Zolnierczyk made six saves to earn his first clean sheet of the year.

STATS TO KNOW

The Colonials checked off another milestone first goal Saturday against the Norse when Bryan Akongo scored his first collegiate goal, joining Gal Ben Dayan and Owen Jowett who have also scored their first career goals so far this year for RMU.

At 1-0 in Horizon League play, the Colonials are currently in a five-way tie for top of the table and are averaging around 5.8 shots per game.

RMU's win over NKU was the first in program history and the first victory in a conference opener since a win over Mount St. Mary's in September of 2019.

TEAM LEADERS

Akongo, Ben Dayan and Jowett are currently tied for the team lead in goals with one apiece, while Hugo Kadima leads the pack with one assist.

Seven Colonials have started all four games so far for RMU. Hugo Kadima leads the squad with six total shots through four games.

Zolnierczyk became the first RMU keeper to earn a win this season and currently sits at 1-1 on the year.

SCOUTING THE MUSKETEERS

A preseason pick to finish eighth in the Big East preseason poll, Xavier is off to a hot start in 2021 at 5-1 and is coming off of back-to-back 1-0 wins against Chicago State and Northwestern.

Wednesday will be the first ever meeting between the two programs as Xavier is led by returning All-Big East selections Felix Boe-Tangen and Karsen Henderlong, who leads them in scoring with seven points.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS

Milwaukee sits at 2-1 on the year and is fresh off of a 2-1 win against UIC last week to put them at 1-0 in league play to kick things off.

The Colonials and Panthers last met in RMU's season finale last spring, a 4-0 Milwaukee victory, their first ever matchup.

Picked to finish second overall in the Preseason Coach's Poll, Milwaukee took down UIC and Northern Kentucky in the Horizon League Championship last season before falling 1-0 to St. Francis Brooklyn in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

NEXT UP

The Colonials hit the road for another two-game swing next week with trips to Saint Francis U Wednesday and Purdue Fort-Wayne Saturday on the docket.
