Moon Township, Pa. -Â The Robert Morris Department of Athletics announced Monday, in partnership with the Pittsburgh College Hockey Foundation, it will host the second-annual RMU Celebrity Hockey Faceoff Sunday, January 15, at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pa.
Tickets are
on sale now and can be purchased via Ticketmaster as both the men's and women's team continue to relaunch their programs.
Last year's faceoff took place in front of a sold-out crowd with standing room only at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex and featured some of Pittsburgh's most high-profile celebrities and former professional athletes. The first RMU Celebrity Hockey Faceoff last year also included the market's top media personalities playing against RMU hockey alumni from both the men's and women's program.
"Last year's game was an outstanding event that helped the "Hockey is the Goal" campaign reach the ultimate goal of reinstating the hockey programs," RMU men's hockey head coach
Derek Schooley said. "This year we are looking forward to celebrating the teams returning by continuing this fun and exciting game. We are back and looking forward too many exciting games in the future. This is just the start."
Former Pittsburgh Penguins that participated last year included Colby Armstrong, Phil Bourque, Ryan Malone, Eric Tangradi, and Tyler Kennedy as well as Robert Morris alum and two-time Olympian Brianne McLaughlin-Bittle. Other former professional athletes that took part included former Pittsburgh Steelers Brett Keisel, celebrity coach and former City of Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and other local greats.
The Pittsburgh media was represented by Andrew Stockey of WTAE, Ross Guidotti of KDKA, Steve Mears and Josh Getzoff of Pittsburgh Penguins TV and Radio Play-by-Play, along with Olly and Jacob from the Canadian comedy duoÂ
On The Bench.
"We are extremely excited for the second annual Celebrity Hockey Faceoff," RMU women's hockey head coach
Logan Bittle said. "The incredible support we had from the community was amazing. This event will be another celebration of RMU Hockey and what it means to the Pittsburgh area. We are very excited to see everyone and share in our excitement for our return to the ice in the fall of 2023."
Season tickets for the 2023-24 season are on sale and those interested areÂ
