Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team opened play in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational Monday in Westlake, Ohio, at Lakewood Country Club. The Colonials posted a 294 on the first 18 holes before shaving three strokes off their score and carding a 291 in the second round to finish the day tied for fifth with Northern Kentucky at 585 (+17).
TEAM LEADERS
Oakland sits atop the team leaderboard after the first two rounds, owning a four-stroke lead over Dayton (582) after posting a 578 (+10). Bowling Green sits third (583), while Butler (584) is fourth. The field includes 14 teams, and rounding out the top 10 after the Colonials and Norse is Green Bay (588), Purdue Fort Wayne (590) and IUPUI and Loyola (Chicago), which each finished at 598 through two rounds.
IT'S MILLER TIME
Fifth-year
Chase Miller sits in a four-way tie for fifth place after the first two rounds of action. He opened the invite with a 72 on the par 71 course that totals 7,059 yards before finishing even in round two to finish Monday at 143. Miller is tied with Colin Sikkenga of Oakland, Tom Bell of Bowling Green and Connor McNeely of Butler. The quarter is just four strokes behind the individual leader, as Henry May of Dayton opened with a 73 before registering a 66 in round two to finish the day at 139 (-3). Miles Parroco of Northern Kentucky and Joe Forsting of Green Bay each carded a 141 (-1) and sit in a tie for second, while Anthony Comito of Oakland sits fourth at 142 (E).
THE LINEUP
RMU has posted 121 pars through the first two rounds as a team, which is tied with Oakland atop the leaderboard. Senior
Logan Hess opened play Monday with a 72 before finishing at 74 for a total of 146 (+4) and is one of six student-athletes to sit in a tie for 17th. Senior
Josh Nagy sits two strokes behind Hess at 148 (+6) after opening with a 76 before shaving four strokes off his score in the second round. Also sitting at 148 is senior
Alex Seelig, who finished 74, 74 Monday, while rookie
Peyton Iverson carded a 155 (+13).
