RMU Loses First Game of the Season in Akron

Morris Posts 9 Points in Loss to the Zips

Box Score Akron, Ohio – The Robert Morris women's basketball team loses their first game of the season against the Akron Zips by a score of 68-50. RMU is now 4-1 overall on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
RMU started the night off with a 4-2 lead with buckets made by sophomore Phoenix Gedeon and Simone Morris. The Colonials fell behind 4-6 but regained the lead quickly with a three-pointer made by junior Mackenzie Amalia, and Rebecca Dwomoh picked up her second assist of the night. RMU finished trailing the remainder of the quarter, down 23-16.
 
In the second quarter, the Colonials reached within six points (26-20) with layups put away by sophomore Danielle Vuletich and Alejandra Mastral. Gedeon scored the last bucket of the half and the Colonials went to the locker room down 37-22.
 
RMU played an even 15-15 score in the third period of play at Akron. The red, white and blue out shot the Zips with 17 shots at the basket, compared to their seven as they spent more time in the offensive zone. The Colonials had six players score during those ten minutes. Gedeon, Amalia and Mastral all scored a two-point basket. Vuletich made a layup and was fouled, completing the and-one for a three-point play, and Dwomoh and freshman Louella Allana scored from behind the arc. After a solid third quarter, the Colonials still remained down 52-37.
 
The Colonials went on their best scoring run in the fourth quarter earning six points in a row against the Zips. Simone Morris provided four of those points with Vuletich scoring another jumper. Morris scored a layup while being fouled and finished the and-one to finish the game. The Colonials would lose their first game of the season 68-50.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Simone Morris led the team in points with nine on the night. Rebecca Dwomoh went five and five on the night in points and rebounds, while also adding a team high three assists. Danielle Vuletich shot 80% from the field going four-for-five on the day. Mastral logged the most minutes for the team once again, being on the court for 35 minutes. She shared a team best three steals with Dwomoh. The Colonials defense still caused trouble for the Zips as they caused 20 turnovers in the game, and scored 17 points off those turnovers. The Zips only made four fouls all game so the Colonials only got to the free throw line for six shots and made all six shooting 100%.
 
NEXT UP
RMU will next play at home vs. Canisius (11/26). The Colonials will then play two Horizon League games away at Wright State (12/2) and Northern Kentucky (12/4).
