Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team concluded play in the 2022 Carpetbagger Classic Sunday, placing second out of 14 teams. The Colonials finished with a two-day score of 596 (+20) at Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, Md.
TEAM CHAMPION
Rhode Island, which led after the first round, claimed the team title with a score of 583 (+7). The Rams posted a 291 on the first day of action and followed with a 292. The Colonials scored 294 in the opening round before closing with a 302. Bryant and Towson tied for third, as each program posted a score of 600, while four teams tied for fifth with a score of 610. The tie for fifth included Colgate, Cornell, Fairleigh Dickinson and Howard.
LEFTY
Junior
Josh Nagy tied for third individually with Gregory Odom, Jr., of Howard to lead RMU. He carded a 75 Sunday, finishing with a two-day score of 144 (even). Brandon Gillis of Rhode Island and Jaime Julve of Fairleigh Dickinson tied for top individual accolades, with each producing a two-day score of 143. Gillis followed his 69 Saturday with a 74 Sunday, while Julve posted a 73 and a 70 to finish at 143.
THE LINEUP
Junior
Alex Seelig was one of five student-athletes to tie for seventh individually with a score of 149 (+5). Seelig finished at 71 Sunday and led the tournament in Par 3 Scoring at 3.00 along with Gillis and Tyler Hahn of Bryant. Senior
Chase Miller notched a round of 78 Sunday and finished at 152 (+8), while sophomore
Xavier Schwarz posted a score of 154 (+10). Rounding out the lineup for the Colonials was junior
Logan Hess at 155 (+11).
UP NEXT
Its first tournament of the 2022 spring season in the books, RMU returns to Maryland next weekend for the Battle at Rum Pointe, which is hosted by Iona at the Rum Point Golf Course.
