Indianapolis, Ind. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team swept the Horizon League weekly awards with junior forward
Chase Gilley being tabbed Offensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week and sophomore goalkeeper
Friedrich Petrelli selected Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Gilley and Petrelli helped the Colonials capture their first road win of the season with a 5-0 shutout in Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon.
Gilley had an offensive explosion as he accounted for his first career hat-trick against the Panthers. He got Robert Morris on the board in the 5th minute when
Hugo Kadima delivered a pass to
Connor Hain who punched a cross into the box, that saw Gilley put a header past the left side of the goalkeeper. At the 9:31-mark, Kadima found Gilley again after a steal that saw the forward find the back of the net for his second goal of the contest and extended the Colonial lead, 3-0. In the 24th minute, Gilley capped off his hat-trick when he found the top left corner of the net and stretched the RMU advantage, 4-0. Teammates
Gabe Norris and
Anass Hadran were credited with the assist.
A native of North Carolina, Gilley leads the Colonials in points (8), goals (3) and assists (2) through five contests. He is averaging 1.60 points per game, which is good for second in the conference.
Petrelli tallied his first shutout of the season as Milwaukee peppered him with shots all afternoon. The sophomore keeper collected four saves on 18 shots faced, as the Panthers fired 10 shots at him in the second half. He is only one of three goalkeepers in the Horizon League to card a shutout this season. The Germany native sits fourth in the league with a .650 save percentage, while ranking second with a 1.40 GAA (Goals against average).
Robert Morris returns to action on Wednesday, September 21, when it hosts Saint Francis for a non-conference match, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
