Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's hockey team lost their first game of the season on home ice, 1-4 against Clarkson. RMU is now 3-4-0 overall in the 2023-24 campaign. The Golden Knights move up to 6-0-1 to begin the year.Â
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Early on, Clarkson got to work offensively, spraying eight shots in the opening four minutes.
Emma Gorski stood tall in net, providing three saves in the opening minutes, but the Golden Knights cashed in on their ninth shot to take a 1-0 lead.Â
For the remainder of the first period, Gorski made 13 more saves and the period ended with the visitors still up, 1-0.Â
Entering the second period, the Colonials tied the game up quickly. After just 92 ticks on the clock, forward
Alaina Giampietro scored a wrap-around goal. Behind the net,
Catriona Crarer slid a pass to Giampietro, coming around the net. She flew in front of the crease and smashed home a goal between the goaltenders legs.Â
Two minutes later, Clarkson responded scoring the go-ahead goal. With three minutes left in the period, the Golden Knights added to their lead for a third goal before the middle frame ended.Â
Starting up the third period, RMU killed off a penalty to get back to even-strength. But, moments later another penalty was called.Â
Clarkson took advantage of the power play and scored their first goal on the man-advantage on the day.Â
As time was winding down, the Colonials still pursued to tie up the game by pulling Gorski out of the net after earning a power play opportunity. The Golden Knights won a crucial faceoff and went down the other way, passing the puck into the empty net to win the first game of the series, 5-1.Â

Wasyn Rice led the team in blocks with five.
Jersey Phillips made four blocks in the game. In shorthanded situations, the Colonials killed off five of Clarkson's power play chances.Â

Emma Gorski made a season-high 49 saves. During her time at Merrimack College, she made 51 saves in a 3-0 win over UConn in her junior season. Last season, she posted a career-high 56 saves at Northeastern in the program's final game of the campaign. Across her four years at Merrimack, she recorded 2,357 total saves. With 129 saves this season, she's reached 2,486 career saves, making her just 14 away from 2,500.Â
