Opening Faceoff
- The Robert Morris University women's hockey team will begin their conference schedule at Mercyhurst this weekend, playing a two-game series up north in Erie, Pa. First game is scheduled for Friday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. and then the following day at 2:00 p.m.
- Last time out, the Colonials hosted Clarkson at Clearview Arena, dropping the first game, 1-5 and the next game, 1-2.
- Both goals in the series were scored by freshman Alaina Giampietro, earning her Rookie of the Week honors by the CHA conference.
- Freshman center Catriona Crarer assisted her line mate Giampietro on both of her goals, earning two assists over the weekend.
- Against Clarkson, Emma Gorksi in the first game recorded 49 saves. This was a season-high for the graduate goaltender out of Walleceburg, Ontario. Her career-high is 56 saves in one game.
- In game two of the series, Maggie Hatch tied her career-high in saves, making 34 stops.
- So far, in the 2023-24 campaign, the Colonials have been awarded a Player of the Week award five total times.
- Sophomore Morgan Giannone received Offensive Player of the Week plaudits in the first two weeks of the season.
- Freshman Janelle Evans and Alaina Giampietro have each earned Rookie of the Week honors once.
- And, graduate defenseman Chloé Puddifant was named Defensive Player of the Week in the opening week of the campaign, as she produced one goal and one assist along with four blocks in the series at Union.Â

The All-Time Series (Mercyhurst) – Dating back to the inaugural season in 2005-06, RMU has picked up 19 total wins against Mercyhurst. In the program's last season in 2020-21, the Colonials posted a 3-1-1 record against the Lakers. The first series of the 2021-22 season started with a 2-2 tie and then an overtime victory for RMU, beating Mercyhurst, 3-2. For the following two games, the Lakers won in Erie, 4-2 before the Colonials won the next day, 3-2 in Moon Township. Later on, in March, both programs faced off once again in the semifinal round of the CHA Playoffs. RMU won 3-2 in OT to advance to the Championship game, moving on to beat Syracuse, 1-0 and qualify for the NCAA Playoff Tournament. Defenseman
Gillian Thompson that year posted one goal and one assist when facing the Lakers, including the game-winning assist to beat the opposing program in the playoffs. Five of the last games between these two sides have gone to overtime.

Scouting the Lakers – Currently, Mercyhurst is 3-6-1 overall this season. Throughout 10 games, sophomore forward Thea Johansson is the leading scorer with five goals and eight points total. From Burlington, Ontario, forward Sara Boucher also has eight points with three goals and five assists. Junior defenseman Sydney Pedersen owns the most assists as she's dished out six this year. Defensively, Pedersen is the team leader in blocked shots as well with 25 in 10 games. In net, Ena Nystrom is the Lakers main goaltender, starting in all 10 games. She owns a 2.80 G.A.A. and .916 save percentage. All three of her wins have been shutouts.

COLONIALS IN THE CHA CONFERENCE
RMU sits at the top of the conference in goals scored, averaging 2.63 goals per game. Defensively, the Colonials are second in the CHA in blocked shots. They've made 118 blocks in eight games, averaging 14.75 blocks a game. Playing on the wing, sophomore
Morgan Giannone sits at second place in the CHA in points (4-6—10). She's currently producing 1.25 points per game on average. Her two game-winning goals remain the most throughout the CHA. Giampietro is tied third in the conference, pacing for four goals and four assists in her first-year season. Captain
Wasyn Rice has blocked 20 shots which is ranked second. Holding a +/- of +9, veteran defenseman Ally Hebert is conference's leader in that category. Hebert's teammates Chloé Puddifant and
Janelle Evans are tied second behind her with a +6.
