Opening Kick-Off
- After a pair of home games, the RMU women's soccer team hits the road as it travels to Oakland for a Horizon League contest on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Oakland Soccer Field.
- The Colonials are coming off a 2-1 victory over Detroit Mercy last Saturday (9/30) as graduate student Kaoru Hayashi registered the game-winner in the 55th minute.
- It took just 10 minutes for RMU to get on the board as Renae Mohrbacher found Taylor Day in front of the net.
- Facing the opposite direction of the goal, Day took a touch to her left and slotted a shot past the keeper, giving RMU an early 1-0 lead.
- Going the other way in the 55th minute, the Colonials built from the back, inching their way forward up the field. Mohrbacher found freshman Shauna Gamble in the center of the field. She passed over to the right, finding Hayashi. The captain dribbled by a player, took a touch to her left foot and blasted a shot over 35 yards out, landing in the top left corner of the goal.
- From then on out, the Colonials slowed down the game. Detroit Mercy still stayed on the attack pushing numbers forward. They pushed five more shots towards goal and Murray made an additional three saves.
- Against the Titans, Brenna Murray was an imperative player in the win. On the day, Murray made a season-high eight saves. Starting all 13 games in net, she's been awarded the win nine times and has saved 49 shots.
