Bemidji Pulls Ahead with Two Quick Goals

Cranberry, Pa. - The RMU women's hockey team falls to Bemidji, 1-3. The Colonials are now 7-12-0 overall on the year. Bemidji moves up to 3-15-1 in the 2023-24 regular season. 
 
1st PERIOD
- Early on, the Colonials cashed in quickly with a power-play goal. 
- Working down low, defenseman Chloé Puddifant received a pass at the point. Looking to her right, she found Madison Primeau on the right-half wall. Throwing a shot on goal, Janelle Evans with the net front presence redirected the puck in to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead, 2:07 into the game. 
- Evans's score was the second fastest goal RMU has scored this season. In the home opener against Saint Anselm (10/7), Mya Neugent scored 1:14 into the game. 
- RMU almost scored on two more occasions in the opening period. Alaina Giampietro and Shailynn Snow both hit the pipe on a scoring chance. 
 
2nd PERIOD
- Quickly into the middle frame, nine seconds was the difference for the Beavers in the end. 
- Off a shot from the blue line, Taylor Nelson tipped in Bemidji's first tally of the tournament. 
- The Colonials won the neutral zone faceoff, but the visitors quickly gained possession, heading down the ice fast as Hailey Armstrong finished off a 2on1 to give her team a 2-1 lead. 
 
3rd PERIOD
- In the final frame, the Colonials posted five shots on frame but weren't able to equalize the score. 
- With 35 seconds left, Hailey Armstrong netted her second goal of the night into the empty net.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
Individually, freshman forward Alaina Giampietro recorded a team-high six shots on goal. In the faceoff circle, center Catriona Crarer won 14 draws, tying her second-best total this season. She earned her team possession 14 out of 19 times (.737). Defensively, Kaitlyn Schooley registered a career-high four blocks on the night, leading her team in that category. In net, sophomore Maggie Hatch made 27 saves pacing for a .922 save percentage. 
 
UP NEXT
RMU will play their last game of 2023 back in Cranberry, Pa. tomorrow, at 2:00 p.m. The Colonials will take on Maine in the consolation game in the Battle at the Burgh tournament.
