Colonials End Tournament with Loss to Maine

Hatch records 47 saves

Cranberry, Pa. - The RMU women's hockey team ends the Battle at the Burgh tournament with a 6-2 loss to Maine. RMU is now 7-13-0 overall on the year. The Black Bears moved up to 10-9-0 in the 2023-24 season. 
 
1st PERIOD 
- In under three minutes into the game, the Colonials took an early lead Saturday afternoon. 
- From the defensive end, Allyson Hebert carried the puck finding Morgan Giannone past the opponent's blue line. Giannone took a shot and off the rebound, Calli Arnold buried the puck in to take a 1-0 lead. 
- With five minutes left in the opening period, Maine scored and then took the lead on the power play with 13 seconds left. 
 
2nd PERIOD
- Entering the middle frame, RMU received a power-play opportunity and took full advantage of it. 
- Off a tic-tac-toe play, Janelle Evans down low dished a pass up to Chloé Puddifant. As the opposing team approached her, she snuck a pass past defenseman, finding Shailynn Snow back door to hammer in the tying goal. 
- Before the end of the period, the Black Bears took back the lead with 1:32 left in the period. 
 
3rd PERIOD
- For the third period, Maine pulled away scoring three more times with one going in an empty net. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
On the day, first-line center Catriona Crarer led the team in shots on goal with five. In the faceoff circle, Mya Neugent went 9-16 and Calli Arnold won six of 11. Defensively, Wasyn Rice led all skaters in blocked shots with three. Between the pipes, sophomore Maggie Hatch registered 47 saves. Her performance was three shy of her career record of 50 saves. She's now posted nine 30+ save games. 
 
POWER-PLAY PRODUCERS
Across the Battle of the Burgh tournament, the Colonials scored two goals on the power play. On both scores, freshman forward Janelle Evans and graduate defenseman Chloé Puddifant chipped in on both. Puddifant dished out two assists and Evans paced for one goal and one assist. 
 
UP NEXT
RMU will now take a two-week break before conference play picks back up. The Colonials will host Lindenwood on Friday, January 12 at 7:00 p.m. and then the following day at 3:00 p.m.
