Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU golf team opened play in the 2023 Horizon League Championships Sunday in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., posting a 306. The Colonials are tied for seventh with Northern Kentucky.
TEAM LEADERBOARD
Purdue Fort Wayne sits in first place after the first round of the 6,751-yard course at El Campeon that owns a par of 72. The Mastodons posted a 290, two strokes ahead of Oakland (292) and six strokes in front of Wright State (296). Cleveland State sits fourth (301), while Youngstown State and IUPUI are tied for fifth after each carded a 304.
BLISTERING START
The Colonials opened on the back nine and as a team collected eight birdies to sit in first at the turn. Senior
Josh Nagy posted a 36 in his first nine of the championships and finished Sunday with the top score for RMU at 73 (+1). He sits in a tie for sixth individually, joining Hunter Mefford and Nick Holder of Purdue Fort Wayne and Tyler Goecke of Wright State. Kasey Lilly of the Mastodons and Yaro IIyenko of Oakland each handed in a 69 (-3) Sunday to sit in a tie for first. Overall, Nagy led the Colonials with a trio of birdies Sunday while collecting a team-high 12 pars.

Peyton Iverson. Miller opened the final tournament of his NCAA Division I career Sunday with a 77 (+5) and is tied with Ryan Sangchompuphen of Detroit Mercy and Cole Corder of Wright State for 27th. Seelig and senior
Logan Hess are each a shot behind Miller after recording a 78 (+6) in the opening round. Iverson, meanwhile, opened with a 79 (+7) Sunday.
THE LONG BALL
As a team Sunday RMU opened the 2023 Horizon League Championships posting a stroke average of 4.85 (-3) when playing a pair five, which is tied for third with Wright State and trailing only Oakland at 4.70 (-6) and Northern Kentucky at 4.75 (-5). Nagy averaged 4.50 (-2) individually when playing a par five while Seelig, Hess and Miller were each at 4.75 (-1).
