Moon Township, Pa. – RMU head women's hockey coach
Logan Bittle announced Wednesday that Patrick Barry has been named the Hockey Operations Coordinator for the Colonials.
"We have finalized our staff with the addition of Pat Barry," said Bittle. "Pat comes very highly recommended from his time at Penn State. He's excited to be a part of our program and possesses the character traits we look for in our program."
Barry began his career with the Penn State women's hockey program his freshman year of college. During his four years of undergrad at Penn State, he was the team's head film manager and student manager.
He played a key role in breaking down plays at intermissions for the coaching staff. Eventually in his junior and senior years of college, Barry was promoted, taking on more responsibility in operations.
"I'm really excited to be a part of RMU," said Barry. "It's also very special to join the program in the season returning to the ice."
Across four seasons with the Nittany Lions, Barry helped the team to a 74-37-17 (.645) overall record. In conference, the team went 45-14-11 (.721) in the CHA.
Barry is coming off a very successful season with Penn State, as the team went 27-9-2 in the regular season and went on to win the CHA Championship against Mercyhurst, 2-1 (OT). The team then advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament, facing #8 Quinnipiac.
"In my time in the CHA conference, RMU was known as the standard, and a top-level program," said Barry. "I'm looking forward to working with this great staff, and getting to work with the players and help them do well this season."
RMU is led by Bittle, who was instrumental in turning RMU into a national power in women's hockey. Over his final five seasons as Associate Head Coach from 2016 to 2021, the Colonials compiled an overall record of 97-47-21 (.651), including a 66-22-11 (.722) mark in College Hockey America (CHA). RMU claimed three consecutive CHA regular-season championships (2017, 2018, 2019) and appeared in a pair of NCAA Tournaments (2017, 2021). The Colonials also claimed their first CHA Tournament crown in 2012, Bittle's second season as an Assistant Coach with the program.
"Pat has hit the ground running and I'm excited to see his growth," said Bittle. "He's another wonderful asset for our student-athletes."
RMU will open the home portion of its 2023-24 campaign with a doubleheader at Clearview Arena Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island.
