RMU Women's Soccer Set for Horizon League Matchup at Cleveland State

Game Notes (10/10)

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team hits the road for a Horizon League clash against Cleveland State on Thursday, October 10, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 PM.

RECENT FORM
RMU (3-4-5, 2-1-2 #HLWSOC) battled Northern Kentucky to a 1-1 draw in their last outing on October 5. The Colonials conceded early in the second half but fought back to equalize with 10 minutes remaining. Off a free-kick, Jillian Marvin sent a cross to the back post, where Taylor Day netted her first goal of the season to secure a valuable point. RMU is currently in third place in the Horizon League standings.

LEAGUE LEADERS
Several RMU players are making their mark in Horizon League play. Graduate forward Haleigh Finale and sophomore forward Paloma Swankler are tied for fourth in the league with four goals apiece, while Swankler's 10 points (4g, 2a) place her among the conference's top five. Junior midfielder Jillian Marvin and sophomore defender Ava Trethewey have each contributed three assists, ranking them third in the league. Graduate goalkeeper Brenna Murray continues to lead the Horizon League in goals against average (1.26).

HISTORY AGAINST CLEVELAND STATE
RMU holds a 3-7 record against Cleveland State dating back to 2006. Since the Colonials joined the Horizon League in 2020, CSU has won three of the four matchups, but RMU earned a 2-1 victory last season. Graduate forward Haleigh Finale has tallied two career goals against the Vikings, while Shauna Gamble and Renae Mohrbacher have each provided an assist in previous meetings.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Cleveland State (0-11-1, 0-5-0 #HLWSOC) is still searching for its first win of the 2024 season. The Vikings' lone draw came against Saint Francis. Junior midfielder Mayra Sesmas leads CSU with three goals and one assist, while senior forward Erica Leinweber has a team-high two assists. Graduate defender Maria Baashardoust has logged a team-leading 1,025 minutes, starting all 12 matches. Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Ott has made 45 saves across 10 appearances, posting a .682 save percentage.
