FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart put in three goals in the third period to defeat RMU, 6-3, on Saturday. With the loss, the Colonials drop to 4-3-2 overall and 1-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey America play.
FIRST PERIOD
- RMU opened the scoring eight minutes in with a power-play goal from George Krotiris, his first of the season, assisted by Greg Japchen and Mitch Deelstra.
- Just two minutes later, Walter Zacher struck for his seventh goal of the year, finishing a give-and-go with Tanner Klimpke.
- However, Sacred Heart responded with two goals late in the period, tying the game 2-2 heading into the second.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Colonials reclaimed the lead midway through the frame with another power-play goal, this time from Tanner Klimpke. Defensemen Gabriel Lunn and Michael Craig earned assists on the play.
- The Pioneers answered minutes later with a shorthanded goal, knotting the score again at 3-3.
THIRD PERIOD
- In the decisive third period, Sacred Heart scored three times in a six-minute span to pull away for the 6-3 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Sacred Heart outshot RMU, 39-30.
- RMU converted 2-for-6 on the power play, while SHU went 1-for-4.
- Walter Zacher led the Colonials with five shots on goal.
- Defenseman Greg Japchen produced his first point at RMU with an assist
- Cameron Garvey and Japchen each blocked three shots defensively.
- Patrick Johnson won a team-high 11 faceoffs.
- Goaltender Dylan Meilun made 30 saves.
KLIMPKE'S MULTIPOINT NIGHT
Sophomore forward
Tanner Klimpke recorded a goal and an assist, marking his second multipoint game of the season and sixth of his career. Over 46 career games, the Calgary, Alberta native has totaled 16 goals, 16 assists, and 32 points.
