SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The RMU women's hockey team fell to Syracuse Friday night, 4-1. The loss drops RMU's overall record down to 5-11-1 with a 0-6-1 mark in conference play.
FIRST PERIOD
- Three minutes into the match, Syracuse got on the board early to take a 1-0 lead.
- Halfway through the period, the Colonials responded as Lindsey Smolen sniped in her first goal of the season.
- The Orange took the lead back three minutes later with a power play goal.
SECOND PERIOD
- Through the middle frame, neither team scored. Syracuse held an edge in shots, 8-7.
- RMU was 0-for-1 on the power play but killed off both of Syracuse's man-advantage opportunities.
THIRD PERIOD
- Early into the final period, the Orange added in an insurance goal to take a 3-1 lead.
- The Colonials had one more power play chance in the third but failed to convert.
- With the goalie pulled late, Bryn Saarela netted the empty net for a hat trick, securing her team a 4-1 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Syracuse outshot RMU 38-21 and were 1-for-5 on the power play while the Colonials finished 0-for-3.
- Junior forward Morgan Giannone had a team-high four shots while defenseman Mya Farr had a team best +1 rating. Farr and Veronica Bac both finished with three blocked shots.
- In net, Maggie Hatch made 34 saves. This was her seventh consecutive game with 30+ saves.
