RMU Softball Announces 2024 Schedule

Colonials slated to play 24 Horizon League games

2/7/2024 4:30:00 PM

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU Softball officially released their schedule, announced by head coach Jexx Varner.

"I think we have a strong and competitive schedule this year," said Varner. "It's a schedule that will continue to keep near or at the top of RPI in the Horizon League as well as truly prepare us for Horizon League and beyond."

The campaign will open up with participation in two non-conference tournaments. RMU will open up the season in Spartansburg, S.C. competing in the Terrier Invite. Following an 11-day break, the Colonials will then travel out to Atlanta, Ga. to play in the I-75 Challenge on February 23-25.

After completion of the two tournaments, RMU will play two double-headers against East Tennessee State (Mar. 2-3) and against Stetson in DeLand, Fla. (Mar. 9-10).

In the middle of March, RMU will host Green Bay at the NAC for their first Horizon League series of the 2024 season (Mar. 15-16). First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

Heading back to non-conference action, the Colonials will host Akron for a double-header on March 19.

For the end of March, RMU will play a series at Detroit Mercy and then host IUPUI to close out the month.

RMU will then host Pitt on April 2 at 4:00 PM for a single game.

Throughout the month of April, RMU is slated to play 15 Horizon League games.

To finish out the season, the Colonials will play at Pitt on April 30 for one game at 6:00 PM. The final series of the year will be played on Saturday, May 4 at Virginia Tech for one last non-conference series.

"It is our goal to push ourselves when we step on the field. This roster has grown a lot in skill and comradery through our very challenging schedules," said Varner. They have faced it all – Women's College World Series teams, Super Regional competitors, Regional competitors, Conference Champions and Power 5 programs. Now they're ready to finish the championship climb."

Led by head coach Jexx Varner, who is in his sixth season leading the Colonials in 2024, RMU finished with an 24-23 overall record last season, including a mark of 14-8 in the Horizon League. The Colonials qualified for conference playoffs this past season and were the runner-up of the 2022 Horizon League Playoff tournament.
