MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team is set to launch their 2024 campaign with a home opener against Le Moyne on Sunday, August 18 at 1:00 PM at the North Athletic Complex.
BUILDING ON LAST YEAR'S SUCCESS
In 2023, the Colonials achieved new milestones, securing a spot in the Horizon League playoffs for the first time since joining the conference in 2020. RMU advanced to the semifinal round after a decisive 4-1 victory over Wright State in the quarterfinals. The team recorded a program-best 12 wins and set a new high with 39 goals scored.
KEY RETURNERS TO WATCH
The Colonials will be powered by key returning players from last season. Juniors
Malia Kearns and
Renae Mohrbacher each netted seven goals, ranking third in the Horizon League. Mohrbacher also ranked third in assists with seven. Captain
Haleigh Finale and sophomore
Shauna Gamble, who each tallied five assists, are back on the roster. Gamble also earned a spot on the Horizon League All-Freshman Team. Defensively,
Brenna Murray returns for her final season after earning 12 wins, four clean sheets, and 80 saves in 2023.
ALL-TIME VS. LE MOYNE
RMU and Le Moyne have faced off only once, last season in Syracuse, N.Y. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with
Renae Mohrbacher scoring off an assist from
Haleigh Finale.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
The Dolphins concluded their 2023 season with a 2-12-4 overall record and a 1-7-2 mark in NEC play. Their victories came against Niagara and Stonehill.
NEW ERA BEGINS
Head Coach Michelle Rick takes the helm for her first season with the Colonials. Rick joins RMU after two successful seasons at the University of Findlay, where she led the Division II program to a 22-11-7 overall record and consecutive berths in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. She is joined by first-year Assistant Coach Reaghan Duval and Assistant Coach Erik Eisenhut, who returns for his fifth season.
UP NEXT
Following their home opener against Le Moyne, the Colonials will hit the road for their first away match on Thursday, August 22 at 8:00 PM against Southern Indiana.
