RMU Women's Soccer Begins Conference Play at Oakland

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's soccer team kicks off their 2024 Horizon League campaign on the road against Oakland on Thursday, September 19, at 5:00 PM. Fans can watch the match live on ESPN+.
 
RMU RECENTLY
RMU (1-3-3, 0-0-0 #HLWSOC) enters conference play following two consecutive draws at home. After a scoreless 0-0 result against Akron (9/5), the Colonials battled to a 1-1 tie with Dartmouth (9/8), with Paloma Swankler netting the game-tying goal from distance with just under seven minutes remaining. Swankler now leads the team with three goals on the season. Freshman Madison Hurst has dished out a team-high two assists through seven matches. Goalkeeper Brenna Murray has been a steady presence between the posts, starting all seven games while recording 36 saves and two clean sheets.
 
ALL-TIME VS. OAKLAND
The Colonials and Golden Grizzlies have faced off four times since 2020. Last season, RMU earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw on the road in Rochester, Mich. Forward Renae Mohrbacher netted her seventh goal of the season in that contest, providing the lone score for the Colonials.
 
SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland (1-6-2, 0-0-0 #HLWSOC) enters the match after a tough 7-0 defeat at Ohio University. The Golden Grizzlies' only win this season came against Illinois State, where they secured a 1-0 victory. Forward Frankie Mudd and defender Putri Sazali lead the team with one goal each, with Sazali also leading in minutes played, totaling 749 minutes this season. In goal, sophomore Julia Zangerl has appeared in all nine games, collecting two clean sheets and making 35 saves overall.
 
HORIZON LEAGUE HISTORY
The Colonials made history last season, earning a spot in the Horizon League postseason for the first time since joining the conference in 2020. RMU posted a program-best five conference wins in 2023, securing victories over Green Bay, Wright State, Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State, and Youngstown State. In their first-ever Horizon League playoff victory, RMU defeated Wright State 4-1 in the quarterfinals before advancing to the semifinals.
 
THE FINALE
Graduate forward Haleigh Finale, from South Park, Pa., continues to etch her name into the RMU record books as she enters her final season. Finale has tallied 16 career goals, 15 assists, and 47 points, ranking fifth all-time in program history for points and goals and fourth in assists. Her 73 career appearances are the seventh-most in school history.
