RMU Shuts Out Lindenwood with 3-0 victory

Rasmuson nets first career goal; Hatch records third career shutout

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Led by Maggie Hatch's stellar 30-save performance, the RMU women's hockey team secured their first conference win of the season, defeating Lindenwood 3-0. The victory improves the Colonials to 7-14-3 overall and 1-7-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
 
FIRST PERIOD
  • The opening 20 minutes saw a defensive standoff as neither team found the back of the net. RMU narrowly led in shots on goal, 6-5.
 
SECOND PERIOD
  • Midway through the second period, RMU's offensive pressure paid off. A strong shift in the offensive zone culminated in Alyssa Rasmuson scoring her first career goal, assisted by Catriona Crarer and captain Allyson Hebert.
  • The Colonials capitalized on a power play opportunity later in the period. Junior forward Morgan Giannone delivered a pinpoint shot to double RMU's lead, making it 2-0.
 
THIRD PERIOD
  • In the final frame, RMU maintained a solid defensive structure as Lindenwood pushed to narrow the gap. Hatch stood tall in net, turning aside all 18 shots she faced in the period to preserve the shutout.
  • With five minutes remaining, the Lions pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker. RMU sealed the victory when Thalia D'Elia scored an empty-net goal from center ice, securing the 3-0 win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lindenwood narrowly outshot RMU, 30-26, but the Colonials held the edge in the faceoff circle, winning 30 of 59 draws.
  • Jersey Phillips won a team-high 11 faceoffs, while Crarer went 6-for-7 and led the team with a +2 rating.
  • Hebert, who registered an assist, added three blocked shots, bringing her season total to 68.
  • RMU converted one of their four power play opportunities, while Lindenwood went 0-for-1.
 
HARD TO BEAT HATCH
Sophomore goaltender Maggie Hatch earned her second shutout of the season and the third of her career with a 30-save performance. Hatch has now accumulated 15 career wins, 1,393 saves, and boasts a .923 save percentage.
 
COLONIAL FIRST
Sophomore forward Alyssa Rasmuson recorded her first career goal, which proved to be the game-winner. The Moosomin, Saskatchewan native now has one goal and three assists in her career.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will continue AHA action next weekend as they host RIT at Clearview Arena. The two-game series is set for January 17-18, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 PM on both days.
